The Chinese Embassy has donated to the soums affected by zud MNT5 million. * The Tahilt, medical rehabilitation centre in Sergelen soum, Tuv aimag, is to receive US$33,000 under the Japanese supported project - The Root of Grass. The funding will cover expenses for the building repair work, and purchase of necessary equipment. There are 17 projects being implemented by the Japanese Government, 8 of them are in the field of health care. Mongolia and Taiwan Although there is no political relation between Mongolia and Taiwan, the latter is regarded as a part of the People's Republic of China, Mongolia has contacts with Taiwan through a non-political channel. According the President of the Mongolian Society for the Cooperation with Oceanic Countries, D.Gotov, such contacts have been maintained since 1990. Just two days ago, 30 Mongolian businessmen left for Taiwan to attend a 45-day business course, which is the ninth one arranged with funding from Taiwan. Altogether, over 300 businessmen have been involved in this project. Chinese language teachers from Mongolian universities and colleges, as well as interpreters of major institutions and companies are also a part of the training programme. As of today, over 40 trainees finished advanced language courses. Taiwan is rendering humanitarian aid to Mongolia. It has supplied 155,000 tonnes of rice. About 20 joint companies and those with Taiwanese investment have been registered with the Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Agency. The number of Taiwanese tourists is increasing steadily. It is said that there are about 400 people of the Mongolian origin living in Taiwan. They have a local council of Mongols. The Mongols in Taiwan entertain amicable feelings toward their original land and are willing to assist Mongolia, said D.Gotov to Unuudur. Developing Yak Farm Yak farms producing meat, milk and wool are suitable to be developed in the high mountain areas, where oxygen is less and the atmosphere pressure is low. The population of yak has been increased by 1.5%, to almost one million over the last decade, and there are 13 million yaks in the world. Apt pastures for yaks in the mountain ranges of Hangai, Huvsgul, Altai and Hentii are still unreachable for other domestic animals. There are some evidences that Mongolians underestimate the benefits the yak possibly can bring, and a yak's market value is much less than that of a cow. For example, a household has to sell 6 yaks to cover a university tuition fee, while a cow owner is spend four animals to do so. Yak farmers usually complain about low profits from yaks, but do they do everything to have a better earning? Its meat is delicious, the wool is best for beautiful warm sweaters and nice wigs from the tail. The milk is nutritious, therefore the milk products and butter can be produced. For example, in Nepal, one kg of yak's cheese cost US$4 for foreigners. One can produce 10-15 kg of European cheese and aaruul (dried curds) by milking a yak. Now you can calculate the real benefits, suggests Unuudur. Currency ( As of February 18, 2000 ) Bank of Mongolia rate US$1 MNT 1089.02 Private exchange rateUS$1MNT1,094-1,096 Weather Dry -16 deg. The second international conference of businessmen of Mongolian origin will be held in Ulaan-Ude next August, and a meeting of arbitration judges from China and the Russian Federation is scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar this year. The Name Mongol N.Naganbuu in his article in the newspaper Zuuny Medee of February 19, tries to explain the origin of the name Mongol, since many believe that no satisfactory explanation of its original meaning has been provided so far. Sedentary people used to name their state or nation by the names of mountains, rivers, where they had settled down, but it wasn't the case with nomadic people, he writes.
何が、 1942年から1943年のウインターにドイツに起こった
The ancestors of nomadic people used to call their ulus, tribes by symbols, expression of worship and specific features of livelihood. The ancestors of Mongols worshipped Munh Tenger (eternal heaven), Munh Gal (eternal fire), and gal golomt or the hearth, and the name of the nation was Munhgal, hence the etymology is not Mongol but Munhgal. The fire has been always rested above the Sun and the Moon in the ancient symbol from the time immemorial. N.Nagaanbuu cites historian A.Amar who wrote the great Mogols of India as Mongal and whom he considered as offspring of Mongols and the great Buddhist historian, Sumbe Hambo Ishbaljar, who in one of his works defined his origin as Mangoal. The author also disagree with the name Hun-nu (Huns) which is in his opinion, a mistranscpription of the ancient Mongolian tribe Hyan or in plural Hyad. Likewise, he can't accept the name Nirun as the name of the state. The people who lived around the Altai, Hangai and Hentii Nuruu (mountain ranges) were called as such, but not the whole nation. To take as a ground the legend that people born from the Altan-Go's Nuruun (spine) have become Nuruun or Nirun is to naive, writes the author. Ƽ: bataa ganaa   As the newspaper Udriin Sonin informs today, thanks to the efforts of the disaster management team of the UN in Mongolia the agency of humanitarian matters of the UN Geneve office will grant an aid of US$88,250 to the affected zones. Out of this amount, US$52,250 have been donated by the governments of Norway and the United Kingdom. The Consulate of Canada through the Canada Foundation is going to send to Erdenedalai soum of Dundgovi aimag hay, fodder, food and medicine worth of MNT10.2 million. UK-based Egyptian business tycoon M.Al-Faied, who had visited Mongolia in 1998, donated US$15,000 to the herders of some aimags. Unfortunately, herders in Mongolia are almost not covered by insurance, says the General director of the Mongol Daatgal Co. L.Zorig. Only one percent of the 33.5 million livestock has insurance policy. Herders had before a wrong notion about insurance as a kind of tax. Now the attitude is being changed, L.Zorig adds.
